We love a games night. And whilst there are always new games on the market which are great fun. The games you played in your own childhood can be just as fun to share with your own children. Of course you could go modern and play classic family games online. You can even play an online chess game.
There are our favourite classic family games.
(Don’t forget; It’s not a proper family games night unless someone cries or stomps off in a strop!)
Guess Who?
I played Guess Who? so much as a kid that I had memorised all the names and faces and position on the grid! It’s a great game to play with younger kids and teaches them to problem solve. That is once you get past the bit where they keep putting down the boys when you have said yes, it is a boy!
Uno
Uno is always one to bring out the competitive side of everyone in our family. We are all ruthless when it comes to that +4 card! And woe-betide the person who forgets to say Uno.
Pictionary
Nothing makes me laugh more than a game of pictionary. Whether it’s the shockingly bad drawing skills of a loved one, or simply that their mind works slightly different to everyone else. Then there are the players that think they are Leonardo Da Vinci and are infuriated when you can’t guess on of their drawings. There’s always lots of fun to be had with pictionary.
Connect 4
Connect 4 has to be one of those games that everyone owns. It’s the ultimate of classic family games. It’s also downright infuriating to teach little kids to play! But once they do grasp the skills required, and realise you don’t just put them anywhere you like, it’s a good quick game for the younger members of the family if you don’t have much time to spend.
Monopoly
Does everyone else live with a family that plays different strategies of Monopoly? My Mum always goes for lots of cheap properties. My Dad and I always race to won Mayfair, Park Lane and all the stations. Monopoly was always one of my favourites, although it does bring out my ruthless side! The big question is, who do you trust to be banker in your house?

Scrabble
As I write this post I am realising how competitive I am at board games. The first thing I think of when I think of scrabble is getting the letter X on a triple word score! A great fun game that improves vocabulary and spelling too! Just remember to have dictionary to hand for any disputes!
Trivial Pursuit
I can hold my own until it comes to the sports and geography questions. Then I have no hope! Trivial Pursuit is a great game if you have older kids. You can buy add on packs of questions to keep the game fresh.
Card Games
No caravan holiday as a kid was complete without a game of rummy. However I’ve reached the point that no one in my family wants to play rummy with me because of my card shark reputation! There are so many different games you can play with a pack of cards; poker, go fish, trumps, 21, solitaire and so many more.
Mouse Trap
Games like Mouse Trap, Ludo, and Snakes & Ladders are great classic family games when you have kids in primary school. They are easy for them to understand and enjoy.
Classic family games are fun and educational, and never go out of fashion. What’s your favourite game to play on games night?
