Moving house can feel daunting: there are so many moving parts and things can start to feel overwhelming very quickly. Every little helps when it comes to taking the load off on such a stress-inducing occasion. For help with keeping calm in your transition, read on for our top moving day hacks for surviving moving day and moving seamlessly into your new home.

Build a Survival Kit
Having a survival kit to hand will be invaluable when you’re in the middle of the storm. Missing phone chargers and insatiable hunger can easily tip a tense environment over the edge. Putting together a survival kit of all your essential and comfort items is a great way to wind down and stay feeling in control.
Keep essential toiletries like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand soap, hand sanitiser, and medications in your survival kit to avoid these things going awry on moving day. Phone chargers and power banks will also no doubt come in handy and ensure you can get in touch with the other members of your family, or your removals company, without a hitch. Including a kettle, teabags, mugs, and snacks in your survival kit will enable you to set up a break area in the kitchen when you arrive at your new home in need of a rest.
Take Photos of Everything
Take photos of everything, as you never know if it may come in handy to your future self. If you’re a digital person, taking photos of your important documents and paperwork is another way to simplify things for yourself, eliminating the need to carry the hard copies around with you all day.
If you’re moving into a rental property, take photos of all the damage you can spot when you first arrive at the new property. You will then have these to refer back to when it comes to moving out again, avoiding you being mistakenly blamed for causing the damage yourself.
Protect Your Electronics
Our electronics are often some of the most expensive belongings we own, and therefore the most expensive things to replace if they were to break. This is why properly protecting your electronics, and investing in removals insurance, is so crucial when moving house.
Create a moving inventory list of all your valuable electronics, from TVs to laptops to tablets. Wrap everything up in bubble wrap and transport these things in the car instead of the removals van to limit any potential damage. Your duvet is a great option for using to wrap your TV to offer it the best possible protection during transit, especially if your car is too small for this item. Finally, back up the contents of all your computers and digital devices so that you have a copy of your files and photos in the event that any damage does unfortunately occur.
Pack Your Clothing Cleverly
Transporting your clothing doesn’t need to be complicated. With a few tips and hacks, you may find it’s actually one of the simplest parts of the whole operation.
For any clothes you keep in a chest of drawers, remove the drawers from the unit and wrap the drawers in cling film. This will enable you to transport your drawers exactly as they are, eliminating the need to take clothes out, pack them into suitcases or moving boxes, and then unpack and put them away at the other side.
For hanging items, keep the clothes on their hanger, and wrap bunches of clothes in bin bags or wardrobe boxes. Then, at the other end, you won’t need to unpack and hang everything again — just simply remove the clothes from the packaging and hang them straight up.
For any clothes you do choose to pack, rolling clothes instead of folding them will prevent your clothes from creasing and will ultimately save space, enabling you to fit more in your suitcase or moving box.
