Garden play equipment can be a big investment. It’s important that you get something the kids are going to get the use out of and that will last so you get value for money. Unless you have acres of grounds and a bottomless bank account, chances are you can only afford to make one investment in garden play equipment. But which do you buy? Let’s look at some options…
Climbing Frame
A wooden climbing frame is a great investment for the garden. A kids climbing frame will last them for so many years. You can choose from so many options as well with Swing sets included, climbing walls, slide, playhouse. There’s so much for a kid to love, and plenty of skills to learn, It’s like having your very own park right their in your back garden.
Play House
A playhouse will provide years of play for kids. From cafe’s to dens, it really is great for their imaginative play. They can also get creative and paint wooden playhouses which in turn helps them to last longer. A good investment playhouse will easily be sold on or passed down when your kids have outgrown it.
Trampoline
Great for when the kids are bouncing off the walls. Chuck them out in the garden to bounce on the trampoline instead! Trampolines are very common now and have come down in price to make them better value. They are great for kids fitness and learning new skills. They have also been known as a great place to sit and chill out! A trampoline is a great bit of garden play equipment, but you will forever be shouting “Do the zip up”.

A wise piece of parenting advice for when things may be fraught is “Just add water”. Kids love waterplay. There’s not much that beats running through sprinklers on a hot day. A relatively low value investment, that of course primarily helps your garden too.

Whether you have the space for a heated pool, or a hot tub, or you opt for the paddling pool option, It’s something you will use every Summer. Pools and hot tubs are much more affordable now, but ensure you factor in the cost of the filters and chemicals required. An added bonus is this one’s not just for the kids!
Mud Kitchen
Messy play is fantastic for younger children. It helps develop motor skills, builds nerve connections in the brain, and encourages problem solving. As a parent messy play isn’t always practical, but the beauty of a mud kitchen is that the mess is outside. Once you have your mud kitchen, just add mud, sand, water, and child, and you have hours of play.
Cosy Coupe
Are you even a toddler if you don’t have a cosy coupe car? We passed ours on to another family after having it for 10 years. My youngest was still squeezing himself in this Summer at 7 years old. And when I say squeezing, I mean we had to take the roof off so he could fit! These cars do really last. I know several that are on their third generation of family!
Football Goal
A great choice if you have a football fanatic on your hands. A goalpost will last years and save your plants or kitchen window from being the goal post. It’s great for encouraging their ball skills.
Flower Bed
This might not seem the obvious choice for garden play equipment, but giving your child their own flower bed with tools and seeds will help to cultivate a love of gardening, and encourage them to be environmentally friendly. It teaches them lots and can provide food. You can make it fun with garden decorations, fairy gardens and lights.
