Awesome and easy low budget Lego birthday party ideas

I love planning birthday parties, especially those that have a party theme. Both my boys had a good few years where they were obsessed with Lego. Our house was full of little Lego pieces in the primary colours. Over the years we have hosted a few parties with a Lego theme. A bit of research turned up plenty of low cost creative ideas, that were easy to replicate. I am going to share some of these great ideas with you.

Believe me when I say I am not a Pinterest perfect kind of girl. I’m far more likely to create a Pinterest fail, so if I can do these anyone can!

Lego Party Decorations

Lego Brick Number

If there’s one thing we are not short of in our house it’s Lego bricks. This number 8 was so simple to do and Big absolutely loved it. It looked great on the table with all of the party food. Of course you can do any number!

Lego Balloons

A birthday isn’t complete without balloons. I turned these balloons into Ninjago balloons. I simply googled Lego Ninjago eyes and printed them out and stuck them to the balloons; It was really effective. Assuming you know your Ninjago colours of course!

Lego Door

A fun idea was turning the door into a Lego block using a plastic table cloth and paper plates. Big thought this was awesome. It cost £3 and took 10 minutes to do. It also looks much better in real life than the photo!

Lego Signs

I also bought the Lego birthday sign from Amazon for just £4.95.

Lego Party Table

An easy way to create a Lego theme is through decorating the table. I brought the following:

•   Plates
•   Napkins
•   Table Cloth
•   Party Bags
•   Paper Cups

Lego Party Food

Lego head marshmallow pops

These Lego head marshmallow pops were not quite Pinterest perfect, but the kids loved them. They are simply marshmallows on a lolly stick, topped with a smaller marshmallow (the kind you use in hot chocolate.) They were then dipped in yellow Candy Melts and once dry, I drew faces on them with chocolate icing.

Adding some fresh options like packaged salads can be a great idea for those who prefer lighter party fare or a quick, healthy addition to the menu. 

Lego Cupcakes

Is it even a child’s party if there are no cupcakes?! I loved these Lego cupcakes. Simply top cup cakes with yellow buttercream or icing and add Lego toppers. Lego Cake

Due to a party with friends and a separate get together with family we found ourselves making two Lego themed cakes. We are complete cake making amateurs, but these were fairly simple.

Lego Head Cake

The Lego head was 5 round sponge cakes with a bit of swiss roll on the top.

Lego Block Cake

The block was three square cakes with 4 Oreos on the top.

The difficult bit was rolling out the icing so it was large enough to cover the cakes. You need a lot of fondant icing for these cakes. They may not be perfect, but they were made with love. And blood, sweat and tears!

Lego Party Bags

A special day isn’t complete without goodie bags! Some Lego inspired ones were turning the bags into Lego simply by attaching small circles of the same colour. These looked really effective, and the party guests loved them.

Ideas for Lego party favours inside the bags include Lego figures, Lego rubbers and Lego badges. I always have so much fun curating party bags.

Chocolate Lego Men

Once of the best investments I made a few years ago were these Lego silicone moulds. I use them so often to make chocolates. Who doesn’t like a chocolate Lego man! You could use them for Lego jelly, Lego crayons and Lego fondant too; I highly recommend the moulds. The chocolates make great party bag fillers.

Lego Stationery

And finally, complete the party with some Lego stationery, whether it’s the party invitations or thank-you notes there are so many designs online to chose from.

Whilst my Lego party ideas may not have been Pinterest perfect, It was all a great hit with the Lego fan that mattered, and it was an awesome Lego party.
