Today is my 40th birthday, and yesterday I went to lunch with some of my lovely friends. Four people that don’t really know each other at all, but all of whom mean the world to me.

Friendship is a funny thing. Sometimes you make friendships through unexpected circumstances. Sometimes the friendships you thought would last forever fall by the wayside.

Friendships change

Sometimes the friendships we think will last forever don’t. For various reasons. Different life stages, differences of opinions, drifting apart. But those people will always hold a place in your heart because they left a big footprint in your life.

But when those friendships disappear they often leave a hole. But making new friends is hard. I’m actually quite shy and I worry that people won’t like me. I’m hoping now I am in my forties, I will get a new lease of confidence that will help me overcome this.

Friendships remain

However there are those special friendships that withstand everything. Time, distance and babies! The friends that you know will always be there for you when you need them. The friends that you can just pick up where you left off. The friends that you can completely be yourself with and they love you for who you are.

I am lucky that I have lots of people in my life with whom time and distance do not effect our friendships. They will always be my friends.

I adore this beautiful bunch of ladies. General life and the fact they don’t all live close to me means I don’t get to spend time with them as often as I would like. But when I do it is so good for the soul.

I met them all in different periods of my life. As a baby myself, at work, living across the road from, and through having babies. These friendships span from 40 years to nearly 10 years. There have been weddings, births and holidays. Career changes, broken hearts, and new houses. And there has been copious amounts of alcohol, dancing and a fair bit of karaoke! There has been laughter and so so so much talking!

A reason a season or a lifetime

I really do believe that people come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. We don’t always know which it will be, but these are some of my lifetime friends.

Thank-you to these special ladies for being a part of my life, and for making my life better by being in it.
