Mature Your Wardrobe

Are you ready to level-up your wardrobe and hit the streets running into a whole new, mature you?

When you’re an adult, how you look and act is much more important than when you were a teenager; after all, you’ll be looking to eventually settle down with someone special and take on the career of your dreams.

Here are the five top fashion tips to feel more mature and get the respect you’ve always wanted.

1. Skip Out on the Latest Trends

If you’re looking for a lifelong partner, then you probably won’t be interested in keeping up with all the latest trends. These trends tend to go out of fashion as soon as the season ends, and you become stuck in a cycle where you need to have the “in-look” no matter the cost. When you’re at an adult party, most people there won’t care if you’re wearing what came fresh off the catwalk, and your wallet would start to hurt too. If you need to have the latest clothing, wait a month or two when the prices start to drop, so you don’t break the bank.

2. Bring Back a Classic Every Now and Then

Wearing some of the latest clothing styles can make you appear classier and respectable once you become an adult. That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to visit the thrift store to get the “authentic” piece. Most brand stores sell modern clothing with a classic touch; that way, you won’t look completely out of place. Throw in some classic pearl earrings or an old-school wristwatch and you’re sure to give off a more mature vibe in your business attire.

3. Toss Out Angsty Teenager Clothing

Anything you once wore or thought was cool as a teenager should be thrown out before you hit a certain age. After all, the last thing you want to happen is for your significant other’s siblings to point out how immature your old clothing looks at the next family dinner, leaving you feeling completely embarrassed. You’d come off as if you don’t want to let go of your younger years and that you’re not mature enough for anything serious.

4. Only Buy Quality Lingerie

When you hit adulthood, the times of wearing cheap and little-girlish undergarments go away, as you’ll no longer want to be seen as immature, especially if you plan to take a relationship to the next level. When you’re out and about with your significant other, you want to feel sexy anywhere you go, and the undergarments of the past no longer fit the bill. Whatever you decide to purchase, don’t overspend on designer garters and lingerie to get the mature look you desire.

5. Stop Wearing See-Through Clothing

Wearing clothes that show off a little too much may spell disaster and deem you unfit for a serious relationship. Not to mention, that style of dress simply won’t be tolerated in the workplace, nor will it earn you much or any respect elsewhere.

According to the SBU “Professional Etiquette” guide on “How to Dress For Success”, 55 percent of another person’s perception of you is based on how you look in the workplace. That means you dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Focus on the essentials, like a nice black pencil skirt or wide-leg trousers paired with a long-sleeve, cotton button-up shirt.

Staying Classy Has Never Been More Affordable

A great sign that you’ve become more mature is when you’re able to balance your wardrobe and budget with ease. You can appear more confident and always look your best when you choose quality clothing that you’ll be able to wear on any occasion. Once you get a set of the essentials, you can begin to build on it by adding a slight touch of personality to every outfit. That way, you’ll never have to worry whether your significant other appreciates your style.
